Downsizing, Upsizing or Right Sizing, preparing for a move is stressful.
You have made the decision to move so now what?
Well one of the first things you want to think about is how you are going to present your home and let others see it’s potential to be a lovely home for them.
You know what a great home it is but does that shine through or would others have to use a lot of imagination?
Have you thought about having a good declutter before you go any further?
Maybe you haven’t and your home is still on the market and not attracting the buyer you had hoped for.
Think about it. How would it benefit you?
Well apart from it helping with your mental clarity, which it most certainly will, you will have a more spacious home to show to any agents or potential buyers that you invite to see it.
This could even result in a higher valuation.
It is easier to keep a home clean and tidy if everything is sorted and put away, so if you get an unexpected viewing, you aren’t rushing around in a panic!
Time spent before you move is invaluable.
I mean, why spend, time and effort packing and unpacking possessions which you don’t really need or love anymore?
It’s not all about letting go.
As I suggested above, often this process can add value to the house!
You will definitely save money on extra packing materials, boxes, packing services and potential storage costs.
So where do you start with this?
Start by getting everybody in the house onboard!
Tackle cupboards first! I know it sounds crazy but if you clear what you don’t need from there, you’ll have space to put away what you want to keep.
Pack up the delicate items as you go which will save time later and you will be reassured that they are safe.
Downsizing.
Is this you, or do you have relatives who are struggling to clear out for a move or a downsize?
I know what it is like to have supported my parents to downsize. I did all I could, but as the ‘sandwich generation’ with a husband who worked away and a school aged child, I wished I could have done more to help.
This process is undoubtedly even more tricky than just taking things from one property to another similar sized one as it often means effectively ‘loosing’ entire ‘rooms’ that have previously been used as living or storage space.
Too Big to Tackle on Your Own?
A Professional De-Clutterer and Home Organiser’s service is unique in that you can have someone by your side as impartial company, with expertise to guide you through all that decision making; keeping you on track so that you see results.
In a calm and unbiased manner, you are supported as you let go of belongings that no longer serve you and create a space that works better for who you are now and who you want to be in that lovely new home that you have planned!
An Organiser very often comes armed with ideas of how you can make sure your preloved belongings are found great new homes or purposes. This undoubtedly creates peace of mind for most people.
An Organiser will never judge your decisions and unlike people closer to you, you will never ‘get it in your ear’ for keeping something that they don’t think you should or be questioned as to ‘why on earth’ you need something!
Many will offer you an unpacking service which supports you as you arrive on moving day and beyond, for as long as is needed as you settle in to your new home.
I have supported people to move and make the best of their new environments straight away.
Here is a lovely testimonial from someone I helped to downsize.
The day I phoned Pauline I found a treasure.
My health was poor, and I was intending to downsize to live in a one bedroom apartment. I lived alone.
My motivation to declutter was very low and I felt overwhelmed.
In Pauline I found a warm kind professional lady willing to quietly help me along my journey of decluttering.
I had a lot of photographs, albums, music and books and I loved them… but there were far far too many!
Pauline has gently challenged me to part with some of my stuff no longer needed.
We had some good laughs. And I have become better at doing this myself.
Pauline always had a thought line about sharing unwanted items to other people and she had her own links to other caring groups. With my agreement, at the end of sessions she would often take armfuls of stuff to her favourite charities, for example, Sharewear Clothing Scheme, where she knew bedding clothing etc would be appreciated.
I could hardly believe that I found myself looking forward to our decluttering sessions!
As my date of moving house loomed nearer Pauline stayed alongside me. She was such a wonderful help… Right through to removal day.
I have now moved in, amazingly emptying my house, with Pauline’s help, and the reality now is that I must declutter some more!!!!
Thank you Pauline for your steady gentle encouragement. I have survived a house move with your help, and my health is much better.
I would recommend anyone looking to declutter to give Pauline a ring.
I hope you find decluttering with her such a helpful experience as I have.
